Constable John A. Gayder, Niagara Parks Police

Curriculum Vitae

------------------------------------------------------------

The Niagara Parks Police, created in 1885 under authority of The Niagara Parks Act, currently employs nineteen sworn officers.

All are graduates of the Ontario Police College, with many holding certificates form other law enforcement institutions such as the Canadian Police College in Ottawa and the FBI academy in Quantico, Virginia. Their duties include enforcement of all federal and provincial statutes on lands operated by the Niagara Parks Commission. This area stretches the length of the Niagara River along the Canada/US border.

All full time constables are armed with the Glock 22 semi-automatic pistol, and must train and re qualify annually with this firearm.

During peak tourist season the Parks Police employ approximately thirty five students, most of who are participants in local law and security courses. These unarmed members hold the designation of Provincial Offenses Officer and are primarily responsible for the orderly flow of traffic and parking offenses.
