It Ain't Over

While I applaud the sunset of the Clinton Gun Ban, I don't believe for a moment that we are free of the "assault weapon" ban.  I can almost guarantee there will be bill, after bill, after bill introduced to renew the ban and further restrict our rights.  We are in a very welcome lull before another very severe storm.  As long as the term "assault weapon" is given credibility by the media and general population, the fight is not over.     The majority of our lazy, ignorant, fellow citizens and some politicians, still thinks the law included fully automatic firearms.
In addition to "assault weapons," other firearms are targeted by the "Brady Bunch" for banning.  Your .308 or .270 bolt action deer rifle with a scope, has been labeled a "sniper rifle."  Some pistols are too big (.44 mag & .50 S&W), others are too small ( cheap, easily concealed "Sat. Night Specials"), while some others are considered "assault weapons," if they are semi-automatic.  I bet there is even a group who wants to ban single action revolvers and other cowboy type guns.
The various anti-gun groups, which I lump together as the "Brady Bunch," wants nothing more than total disarmament of law abiding citizens, leaving only the government and criminals armed.  The various anti-gun groups and some political candidates, often apply a so-called "sporting purpose" to their arguments to ban "assault weapons."  Along with the various anti-gun groups, are the so-called "animal rights" groups, which want to ban the use of any type of weapon for hunting purposes, and environmental groups who wish to ban target shooting altogether, for environmental reasons.  So much for "sporting purposes."
While I am not a "black helicopter" conspiracy theorist, I do believe this is part of a general movement by the left to institute their idea of a utopian society upon the United States.  This movement wants total government control of every aspect of our lives, from conception, till death.  Many of the neo-socialists believe the only reason the Soviet Union was unsuccessful was because the wrong people were in charge.  If only "they" were in charge, socialism would work because "they" are the truly enlightened.  Because "they" are smarter than the rest of us, only "they" can know what is in our best interests.  The only way to institute the changes they envision, is to remove the ability of the people to resist.
