Pure and Simple

For the past couple of days I was paying close attention to the news coverage of the mass murder in Massachusetts. Waiting for the "blame the guns" mantra to begin. Wednesday one of the cable news services was carrying the arraignment of Michael McDermott live. It was during the arraignment that I was struck by two things said by the prosecuting attorney. He said that McDermott was armed with; "A .32 caliber, semiautomatic revolver."

Huh? A semi-automatic REVOLVER?

The prosecutor next said that in his home they found, "a bolt-action, semi-automatic rifle ... with a sniper scope."

Say what? A BOLT-ACTION, semi-automatic rifle?

I wonder what the difference is between a hunting scope and sniper scope? Was the DA simply ignorant, or was he intentionally misstating the facts? As long as certain folks with a political agenda, continue to misidentify guns, the truth will be suppressed. As long as some use the focus group buzz words to misidentify a ".32 caliber semi-automatic revolver" the problem will continue. When NBC or the like, does a report on "assault weapons." They will say the words "semi-automatic," but the video image running in background is of someone firing a totally different weapon on full auto. The video image is the over riding in-put, and full auto fire is associated with the words, "semi-auto."

Do you think it is an oversight that the major networks do not carry coverage of Olympic Shooting Competition? The US team routinely brings home the gold in that sport. Ever see NBC cover that? No? Do you think that is an accident? Hell no. They do not wish to show the public any healthy, competitive use of firearms. But they splash the TV screens in US homes all night, every night with illegal use of guns. I wonder why.

Reporters and lawyers are very, very careful about their use of words. That is how they make their living. It is not an accident that the truth is distorted, and the ignorant masses are kept ignorant. Propaganda, pure and simple.
